Yamelievi Art Gallery was founded in 1990 in the heart of the historic capital city of Veliko Tarnovo. Its founders, visionaries, and resident artists are Zhaklina Kirilova Yamelieva and Marchel Petrov Yameliev.
Zhaklina Yamelieva was born in Veliko Tarnovo in 1965. She graduated from the High School of Fine Arts in Tryavna, specializing in Interior Architecture. Today, the academy is renowned as the National High School of Applied Arts "Tryavna School".
Marchel Yameliev was born in Ruse in 1963. He graduated from the Woodworking and Interior Architecture School in Ruse, specializing in Woodcarving under the guidance of the eminent master carver from Tryavna, Denyo Denev.
In 1984, the two artists intertwined their paths within the academic creative space of St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, graduating in 1988 with a degree in Fine Arts (Painting) under the masterclass of the distinguished Bulgarian painter, Professor Aleksandar Terziev.
Immediately following their graduation, their shared life and artistic journey began. For over forty years, this path has been walked every single day—filled with profound inspiration, creative emotion, and a vibrant, ongoing dialogue with the art lovers and collectors who step into our art space.
Within the universe of Yamelievi Art Gallery, art is not merely aesthetics, but a spiritual quest—an eternal striving toward Ascension and purification through the canvas, a salvation from the fall of mundane reality. Our creative work encompasses nearly all genres, with the exception of classic portraiture commissioned from photographs. For us, a portrait requires a deep, personal knowledge of the subject, capturing their spiritual essence, character, and distinctive presence, which transcends the mere mechanical reproduction of a photograph.

Zhaklina Yamelieva works predominantly with brushes, achieving subtle nuances, tenderness, and a magnificent richness of color. Her figural compositions are enchanting original interpretations inspired by Bulgarian folklore. Rather than being a mere literal depiction of ethnographic themes, they represent a masterful weaving of the entire folkloric pantheon into a deep, metaphorical space, leaving the viewer room for interpretation and reflection.
Marchel Yameliev works primarily with palette knives and painting knives tailored for canvas, building a distinctive three-dimensional texture and depth. Through the impasto technique, the oil paint acquires a mature, powerful, and spectacular relief with a "3D" effect. This heavy layering is not an end in itself; it is a way of sculpting the space and establishing conceptual accents within the canvas. His main explorations are focused on conceptual abstract paintings (seasons, female nudes) and deeply personal re-interpretations of Vincent van Gogh's masterpieces—a direct touch to the expression and virtuosity of the great master.
