If you are interested in the old history of the city and the places associated with the greatness of the Bulgarian kingdom in the Middle Ages you should visit the emblem of Veliko Tarnovo - Tsarevets hill-fortress, located at the eastern end of the city and surrounded on all sides by the Yantra River. Next to it lies the hill Trapezitsa with open foundations of 17 churches, and between them is nestled the picturesque Asenova mahala, with the churches "St. Dimitar", "St. Forty Martyrs ”,“ St. Apostles Peter and Paul ”,“ St. Georgi ”and“ Assumption of the Blessed Virgin ”, as well as the Vladishki Bridge.
Be sure to visit the Cathedral "Nativity of the Virgin" - the largest church in the city, as well as visit the Museum of the Revival and the Constituent Assembly, located in the Old Konak, built by master Kolyo Ficheto, which is also the place where in In 1879 the Tarnovo Constitution was adopted. In the immediate vicinity is the Archaeological Museum.
