Today, many do not know anything about this day, although in the past the people of Veliko Tarnovo sacredly celebrated the Day of their liberation, and one of our streets is still called "July 7". "Residents of Tarnovo stood on the roofs of houses on the outskirts of the city and waved towels. Seeing that the Turks would not survive and began to withdraw to the east, the Bulgarians rang the bells. A wonderful moment came. The boom of shots, bells, shouts of joy, all this merged into a common noise ... Gen. Gurko and the Duke of Leichtenberg solemnly entered the city with a guard squadron. The enthusiasm of the Bulgarians was endless: some rushed to kiss us, others shouted "hurray", the women from the windows showered us with flowers ".
